Finally Friday April 29

Mostly checkout this week (ha ha on that ... more later). And a big to-do where I messed up and didn't notice the 3D printing filament was getting low right before the 5th grade girls who designed a water wheel as part of their hydroelectric power research project finished and were ready to print. You'd think with something so cool it would have a simple "Hey, dummy, go order some more."

I have some great ARCS on my Kindle. And a book my brother-in-law published on Amazon that (luckily, cause I admit I was like "what on earth will I say if I don't like it?" is actually quite good. I was trying so hard to read last night but I guess I'm getting old. I fell asleep at a quarter after eight. And that's with a nap. How long will I make it tonight? :P

Here are some pins that caught my eye. Click through for original sources. Have a great weekend!

Pin ...

My attempt ...

Considering I should have changed the background. And tried a little harder on the jersey. And recut the letters instead of throwing them on a background when I realized like a dummy I'd cut them out of the wrong color. And not even taken a pic til I had more book covers up there (plus maybe a basketball and GOSPURSGO)? Not a total fail but not as good. Oh well.

Actually said I was five (well ... soon to be four) years older than I really am. Oops.

Dare we try this at school? I don't dance. But the kids would LOVE it!

I could scream at this. I really could. There are several classes where more than half of the kiddos can't get new books cause they haven't brought back the old books. And half of those are from six weeks or longer. Return what you have so you can get new ones! Under your bed they're not doing anyone any good!

Off to read. Or fall asleep. Though I just saw that there could be more hail. SA has had some really bad ones lately. Not myself but a lot of people at school. So odd. USAA is sending drones around to investigate claims they have so many!

#IMWAYR April 18 and Rambling

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Date. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now… who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
Our Kid Lit to YA version is hosted by Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers.

And I'm so behind!

Since the last time I linked up ...

And only one of those a kidlit book (these two grown up books were actually quite good! The last several adult titles had me losing faith). Pretty sure I've already GoodReads logged all of my picture book reading with kids the last several weeks and I haven't made reading a high enough priority when I got home. Sleeping won. Or trying to sleep. And poking around IG. Have you been following the #teachersandlibrarians hashtag? I've found several new people that way. It's fun seeing other displays and spaces and such. And as close to following through on a challenge as I've ever gotten. Knock on wood! IG posts are quick. At least when you're not nearly so good as some designing beautiful images. Just #keepinitreal.

In full disclosure watching SW The Force Awakens might have won. Twice. And lots of after school meetings. :P

Books I Want to Read in the Next Week or Two
I'm almost done with the audio of The Accident Season. A bit odd. Not what I'd expected but we'll see. A solid 3 with anything higher to be determined upon the ending! I have also finished "collecting" all the Harry Potter on Audible so I should start that.

And I'm long past due on Salt to the Sea.

No school on Friday. It's the Battle of the Flowers. So I should. Unless I go see Superman/Batman? Or Jungle Book?

I saw this app the other day on IG and wondered if it could be fun for school as a way to track the year (like I've always meant to do a timeline of our read alouds and then never do ... cause I forget or the printer is out of ink). The hard part would be keeping the memory space clear on the device. School devices are notoriously low on the memory spectrum. Fun to see kids change or just as a short visual "this is our year" bit. But holding on to the memory for a whole year. That could prove to be a problem. In theory I love the idea, though.

Today I admitted I didn't love having the volunteer luncheon in the library. How rude am I. But without a decent vacuum cleaner and counter/cabinet space NOT NEAR BOOKS or COMPUTERS and human beings that spill drinks and cake and sandwiches and veggie dip... I just don't like it. Rude, right? But seriously. I end up having to clean sticky spots and crumbs for weeks and lose an entire day of class visits and reshelving. I can do some things in the classroom but not everything. Of course considering it's the day after my birthday and I wanted to take that day off ... I guess I can't really pull the "we'll lose a day of summer reading and end of year projects" card, can I? Our district so kindly makes all library books due on my birthday so that's what I tell kids. "Please bring back all your library books for the end of the year. That's all Ms. O wants for her birthday!"

I've thought about doing summer checkouts and then get nervous because of how many we'd lose. Do you? Kids need books. We don't have a branch super close. But with turnover ... we'd lose a lot. We lose more than I want during the year. The cost of doing business! It's never the old books, though. It's the new ones ...

Hope all the TLs headed to Houston stay safe and dry. I admit I'm a little jealous! I missed so much of TCEA. Post lots!

Currently April

Linking up with Farley.

Twice a year my church holds a special worldwide broadcast with speakers delivering messages. We used to have to go to the church building to watch it (via satellite) but hooray for cable TV and the internet. Church in my pjs or yoga pants!

It does make me feel better. Don't do a lot of talking about it on my blog here but it does seem like messages are personalized. Heavenly Father knows what we need and the Spirit delivers the message.

Two days of testing where the library was closed to the 400 PreK-3rd grades (well, and 1 day 4th grade) so Monday and Thursday were crazy. Then Friday was a club early release schedule day and then iMovie making with 15 grades 3-5. Totally making it up as I go. Wish I would have chosen a different topic! At the time I had been asked to work with a kiddo that needed some extra motivation to keep his academics and behavior in check and was really interested in filmmaking (he wanted to be just like Zach King ... and it was actually pretty cool to see the change in him when he talked about it ... the ONLY reason I agreed because hello, I don't know anything about filmmaking!). Then he moved after our first meeting. :P

Vacuuming and dusting and general pick up the clutter. Sigh. It gets ahead of me! And I have no one to blame but myself!

Seriously, why must soda taste so good when it's so bad for you?

It hurts to look at the Comic Sans. It really does.
