#IMWAYR Sept 25

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila at Book Date. It is a great way to recap what you read and/or reviewed the previous week and to plan out your reading and reviews for the upcoming week. It's also a great chance to see what others are reading right now… who knows, you might discover that next “must read” book!
Our Kid Lit to YA version is hosted by Teach Mentor Texts and Unleashing Readers.

I'm behind again.
But I love Lockwood & Co. Have I said that? I think I've said that. πŸ€”πŸ˜€πŸ€“
And, actually, the Hooray books as well.

And that is all I really have to say today. I need to finish a couple books that have been sent to me and with energy levels where they've been ... that might be my best goal to set this week.
Though Bruce's Big Move comes tomorrow so there is that.

And really in October Lockwood deserves it's own blog post with more detail to convince anyone who hasn't already picked them up (I've done them all in audio which I highly recommend). As do the Hooray books. So those will come later.

Come with Me is the loveliest book.
Quest for Z is the most fascinating.
99 Stormtroopers the funniest.
Miles Morales the coolest.
Serafina the creepiest (plus for being behind ... book three is already out!).
Give Me Back my Book and This is My Book are both the most likely to get used in a lesson.
Henry Whiskers I will talk more about when I read book two. I received it from the publisher. I love all things English so that was a draw!

THIS IS NOT A DRILL LOCKWOOD #5 COMES OUT TOMORROW! CAN I STAY HOME AND READ? Like I love these even more than many Star Wars books. And you know I love Star Wars. I think it's the last one. πŸ€“πŸ™πŸ˜’ But you can't have the joy unless you experience the pain, right?

And Serafina 3. And the poor electronic ARCs that got left behind when school started.  Those are the books I will try to read next week. Plus Hooray for Books because it is getting delivered tomorrow. Amazon Add to Cart is too easy.

Finally Friday Sept 8

Here are some interesting things I saw on the internet ... well, not really this week because I didn't spend all that long on the internet this week. Past times. If you're reading in a blog reader and it looks like something is missing click through ... sometimes embedded pins or what have you don't make it to Bloglovin or Feedly.

Does anyone else find Pinterest not actually quite as fun anymore? There are so many promoted pins that I never asked to be in my feed that are not even interesting to me it's just a distraction. I don't spend nearly as much time on there as I once did. Still a place to keep track of some things I might have found elsewhere. And sometimes I still go on and poke around. But not nearly like I used to.

Because if nothing else noticing how you can drag the address/toolbar? 🀦‍♀️ But then the Emoji KeyboardπŸ€’πŸ‘½πŸ‘Š and Driveslides. And several others. Check it out.

Super weird doing yoga that close to Han's pained face. But I sort of want. It's overpriced. If they'd only done it for under $50 I'd already have ordered it. But I haven't.

Still don't know about this but ... last while have discovered more about this. If that makes sense.

Dummy as all get out preview picture but go check it out because super handy.

#IMWAYR Labor Day Sept. 4

So I've spent the morning cutting bookmarks and other things for school since there's no time or help to do it there and I had nervous energy because I knew my dad was trying to get gas and the past four days that has become a major deal here in south/central TX. Like major deal. I lucked out Saturday morning with a 45 minute wait. He's currently going on eight hours. But not enough gas to drive all over town to different stations and many, many, many stations are out and waiting for deliveries and he works even further away from his house than I do. It's a logistics issue post Harvey, they tell us.

Houston and the coast have bigger worries. Hopefully no one will have bigger worries later next week due to Irma. And ... is it Montana that is having all the fires? So I'm trying to be stressed. But I am.

BOOKS! Not as many as I wanted to. :(

Force Friday brought me these. Only one was for reading, obviously, but it was so fun to get a backstory on our favorite little roly poly droid. He's a good little guy!

And I also downloaded Claudia Grey's Leia ... but I haven't read it yet. Once I finish Miles Morales I will get to it. Darn it and the E ARCs that I keep putting off. Once I get home from school I look at a few things on the computer and then I fall asleep. It's so silly. What would I do if I had kids?

Oh and I also read The Quest for Z by Greg Pizzoli. A picture book for the OLDER crowd but super cool art direction and a cool non-fic story.

Super excited that next week the audio to book five of Lockwood & Co (Jonathan Stroud) The Empty Grave will be out. I love that series! An alternate slightly spooky London with characters I've gotten to know over the course of the previous four books. Very much looking forward to more time with them.

Throwback Post ...Library QR Code Sign Ins with an iPad and Google Forms

So it looks a little silly because the iPad is not actually in there. But usually it is. I just don't trust that I'll remember to take another picture next week so why not get this written. This is what kids see when they first walk in. I do have to take the iPad out to charge because there was not a plug that was handy ... but one COULD run a cord down that pole if you had a plug available.
Kids sign in via a pass with QR code (how to a past post on my blog). I forgot to take another pic once the iPad was in there. They get their shelf marker (next pic ... on class rings with bar codes on one end, yes, sometimes they have trouble with the rings πŸ™„. I modified an idea from @myschoollibrary but I'm mean and couldn't deal with keeping track of punches or handing out prizes anymore 😟). Next pic is the middle circ but that will only be used for problems cause it requires me to be stuck behind it (it is where the majority of book clearing from class drop offs will happen, though, cause it's right by the drop). All the way at the end is the self check in/out. Sort of awkward from the sign in/entrance but it's very handy for the exit. #schoollibrary #circdesk #elementarylibrary

And these are our library passes! The QR code goes to a Google Form.

Now, do I properly use all of the info that the Google Form could give me? Sharing the data of what grades are coming independently every month in pretty graphs with my admin? No. But in theory I could. And I'm hoping to get better. This is definitely a step up from the spiral notebook we were using before. Which was a bare guess ("23 lines, 13 pages used, how many kids is that?") in a month. And a couple teachers have used the time stamp (I did share the results form with them) to keep an eye on a couple kids who sometimes wandered between the classroom and the library.

How do you set up pre-filled QR codes (the kids only have to fill in why they are in the library (book checkout, finish tech projects, etc ... and their name, of course!) See not prettily formatted but it gets the job done and it is updated to a couple of changes in Forms HERE. (later edit ... link sharing is fixed now. How embarrassing!)

Happy Labor Day weekend. I'm going to take a nap to recover from the silly stress of having to wait in line for 45 minutes to get gas this morning. South TX has gone nuts post Harvey. So lame of me to say stress because Houston has so much more to deal with (keep donating to your preferred places! There are lots of them!) but this weird gas not shortage but supply snafu issue everyone's flipping out thing ... it's just weird. I live too far away from my work to deal with that. Thursday? Lines of cars 70+ long. This morning the line was only like 20 long. But there was one going the other way as well.
